Vive! History
Founded in 2000 as Confident Living, Inc., Vive! is a synthesis of the ideas David Herz developed during his 15 years experience working with children, teens and young adults. Having begun a teaching career in 1989, David found himself increasingly drawn to the emotional and psychological challenges his students struggled with as they faced the transition to adulthood.
David developed and implemented several experiential learning programs in Colorado as a means to better integrate the educational needs of his students with their emotional and psychological growth. In implementing these educational programs David found that many of his students faced the looming transition to adulthood with hesitance, if not outright trepidation and fear. For more sensitive children or those who were particularly ill-prepared to take the leap into this new world - a world full of new responsibilities, daunting expectations and the possibility for failure at every turn - this transition posed challenges that could appear insurmountable.
David found a common theme among teens and young adults who exhibited behavior problems: a lack of confidence to take the healthy risks that would help them grow into high-functioning adults. He saw clearly the need of young people for a guide - someone they could trust to help them navigate the murky, threatening waters of this transitional stage and arrive safely on the shores of adulthood.
As a therapist in both private practice and in program development with a residential treatment program in Boulder, CO, David further developed his ideas for relationship-based healing within a teen's real-world environment. He found that the treatment process achieved more profound and sustainable results with teens when it simultaneously addressed the family's role in the healing process. When David formally integrated a parent coaching component into the program, he saw a dramatic rise in positive outcomes.
David saw a pressing need for a local program in the Rocky Mountain region, and began applying these principles with clients in Boulder, Colorado in 2000. The company has grown since then to more than 60 employees. Increasing, widespread demand for the program is driving Vive!'s plans to expand its area of service beyond the Rocky Mountain region. Vive! opened regional offices in Denver, Colorado, San Francisco, California and Los Angeles, CA during 2006, and will open offices in Dallas/Ft. Worth in March of 2007.
